Exploring the Effect of Residential Participation on Alleviation of Welfare Blind Spots

Abstract

The Purpose of the study was to explore the effect of residential participation on alleviation of welfare blind spots in Korea. Residential participation data of 2019 collected from basic administrative districts in Korea were analyzed. A complete mediation model was analyzed with path analysis method. The results are as follows. First, residential participation was positively associated with detection of households in need. Second, detected households in need were provided proper public assistance and welfare service provision. Third, detection of households in need significantly mediated residential participation and alleviation of welfare blind spots. Therefore, residential participation is meaningful activity to prevent crisis of households in need and strengthen community welfare. Implications for community welfare policy and residential participation are discussed based on the results of analyses.
